I'm back!
Well, as you may have noticed, our story could have ended on the last part, like it has happened to several other crushes I've had in my life. I even remember talking on msn with a friend of mine (Goiano) - shortly after being in love with Daniel - that I was tired of having my heart broken almost every week! At that time I would "fall in love" very easily and as you know, none of these crushes led to anything! And when I said this to my friend, I was really thinking that my crush on Dan would have the same destiny: nothing! But as you already know the end of it, yes, our history did not finish there - it was quite the opposite (say marriage and have babies together!!!)
So I was disillusioned and kinda sad too! I guess I also got to talk on msn (something similar to Aim - instant chat - which was the most used in Brazil) with Ju Ueno on that same week and mentioned to her that I had liked Daniel a lot. I think I did it as a last attempt! Then Ju said "I know! Get his msn! He's usually not online but you can try talking to him." And without at least giving me time to answer her, she handed me (virtually handed me, I mean) his hotmail email address (aka msn). And there it was... standing still on my screen. So here it came the doubt: should I add him or NOT ????". I've never wanted to be seen as an easy girl so how would he see that? At the same time I was trying to convince myself that there would be no problem on adding him because many people do this: add anyone and everyone on msn. He could think I was that kind of online friendly person! He couldn't assume that I was actually flirting with him "only" because of it, right?
While I was still deciding it in my head, it was just too easy for my finger to simply press the button and add him. And I did it! Impulsively so there was no turning back! So I had him added him on my msn and then I let it go! Because as soon as I realized there was no turning back I could relax about it! I was actually so relaxed that when Dan finally accepted my friend request on msn (maybe after a week or two) and we were online at the same time - so we could chat - my crush on him had already faded away. But since I had added HIM I thought it was fair to introduce myself again and strike up a first online conversation. It was something like:
Me: "Hi, So... I do not know if you remember me, but I am Gabriela, Ju Ueno's friend, who got a ride with you two weeks ago."
Him: "Oh, yes I remember."
And, you know, we talked a little. I remember that we didn't talk much on that first time. I think when he got online on msn I was almost leaving to do something else. And as I said, my crush on him had already passed. So I think the next two times we talked on msn, yet on that same week, Daniel himself started the conversation! For those who are not so familiar with msn (or aim), WHO begins the chat is a very important point! So I was noticing that he was falling for me while I was trying to get away. I don't know what happens with me, but I have always done this sort of thing! I liked a guy, tried to win him over and if by a chance he ended up getting interested in me, I would step back! It should be a way of self-defense, I believe. Maybe I was a little bit afraid of getting involved in a serious relationship.
Well, with Daniel it was no different. So as we were talking more on msn, the more I realized he was getting really interested in me and I was making excuses for not going ahead with it seriously. But, by divine providence, I believe, I kept talking to him. Well at least they were interesting conversations, I convinced myself! And the conversations were getting more frequent and longer. As soon as I get online, he would immediately start talking to me and it seemed like he was online way more often than before, which I thought it was kinda strange, since Ju told me that he was rarely online! haha And from our conversations I could tell he was trying an approach.
At that time, Dan was a english professor at "Wise Up" (later on he would also be a teacher at "In Touch") and he had two female students who were my classmates. He asked them about me but they didn't speak very well of me - hahaha - I think they said I was a very angry and serious girl, or something like it. And Dan told me this, hahaha. Look at my embarrassment! Well, after a while, at some point in our conversation, he tells me this:
"Wow, we have only seen each other once, right? Do you think we will see each other again?"
I froze! hahaha This was too direct for me I didn't see it coming!
Me: "Oh, can be ..." (ellipsis are super important at these times! lol)
Then I think he said a "Yay" - haha - and that was it. But soon on the next days he came up with a "party conversation". It was about a traditional party (launched by the engineerings courses) by the end of that week and that he and all of his friends (from Biology) were going. He asked me if I was also going and I said probably not. Well, I was tired of parties and i was afraid of Dan, hahaha! That was looking too much like a date and I was not willing to give myself in so easily.
What actually happened was that I really didn't go to that party and he did! On the following days, we met on msn again and he told me that he was looking for me at the party, and that he asked a lot of people if they knew me and if they knew if I was there or not. He told me that some people he talked to actually knew me and one of them even replied: "Oh, she doesn't go to parties so often." Which it was funny because I guess I was the only person who was studying engineering that hadn't gone to that party! Actually many people were there, but still I had decided that I wouldn't go!
Okay, but theeeen, I asked him how was the party and he said: "Oh, it was super cool!"
Whaaaaat? I know THIS. I know what THIS means! No man, specially from biology, would go to an "ENGINEERING party" talking back that the party was good if he was not with some girl! (Theory confirmed much later, when we were already dating). Can you believe these men? Even when they like someone they can be with another girl, easily and simply like that. And he was still talking to me on msn!!
Ok, I said I didn't want anything between Dan and I (did you really take me seriously? Lol) but that was too much and I was not ready to let other girls have him! Well, then he said there would be another party next week and that he and all of his friends were also going! (Which means that he left me a hint, right?)
And that's the end of the fourth part!

"A História de Nós Dois - Parte 4"
Voltei!
E a Ju, então, me disse: "ah, pega aí o msn dele!!
Ok! Adicionei ele no msn e daí desencanei!
"Ah, lembro sim."
Bem, no mínimo eram conversas interessantes, eu me convencia!
E o Dani me contou isso, hahaha. Olha a vergonha!
E ainda continuar a conversar comigo no msn!!!!
Ok. (Isto é, me deixou a dica, né?)
"The Story of Us - part 3"
Here it's what you've missed on the previous chapters:
I was (am) a very quiet and tranquil girl tired of parties and related (novelty!). I went to Ju's house in sjc (something kinda uncommon for me to be doing). Dan would give me a ride back from her house to Campinas (Daniel is Ju's friend but a stranger to me!). When we first saw each other he total snubbed me (Whaaaat?) And I, nevertheless, liked him (stupid me)! And I had stopped the story shortly before catching a ride with him!
So Dan decided that instead of picking everybody up at Ju's house, he would pick us up at the "Colinas" Mall. As I've already said, I had not liked it at all. I thought that was kinda a selfish thing to do since he had agreed to meet us at her house which was not far from the mall. While this didn't mean much difference to him, for me it did! But who gives the ride set the rules of the game. It's just that I'd expected more from some friend of Ju. But let's not give it too much attention!
So everybody had already arrived at the mall but Dan was not there yet. I was talking to Claudia and telling her the little I've learned about Dan. I repeated almost everything what I've heard from Ju. While I was talking about him to Claudia, Dan appears RIGHT behind us. I remember I frightened thinking that he was ears dropping me talking about him. I turned to look at him and ... he had taken a shower and he was actually looking pretty cute! =)
So we loaded the trunk with everybody's bags (mine was the largest! That was kinda embarrassing, but there was nothing I could do about it at the moment. I'm always pretty bad at packing my stuff and I always end up taking with me more things than I actually need. Besides, I had bought some gifts for my father, Ju and Lara (my sisters) as their anniversary were close to that date. But back to the story. It was kinda obvious that I was going to seat in the front seat and I actually wanted that. So I didn't even ask - for courtesy - if someone wanted to go in the front, for not risking to lose my spot.
I remember that shortly after we drove past the city's limit, Dan made through a curve kinda too fast and I immediately remembered Ju Ueno mentioning about his over-speeding. But it was just a minor "shock" and he drove safely the rest of the trip! Well, then there we were at trying to start a conversation with someone you don't know yet. But I'll have to say it was kinda easy and the topics of conversation were flowing pretty naturally one after the other. Of course it wasn't just me and him that were talking. I constantly tried to include the other two in the conversation too. But one can say that I was very engaged in talking to him and being suuuper smiling (something not so natural for me, unfortunately).
Anyway, we talked about everything, even about favorite names for each our own future children! Who would have thought that mine and his would be the same ones!! =) But please don't even ask me how we got to this subject bc I really don't remember how it arose. But it must have been because I mentioned that I had many siblings (ten!) so there is always the same basic jokes following such statement like questions "do you remember all of your siblings' name?" duuh. But back to what I was saying, we talked about names of babies and guess what! Dan and I ended up agreeing to some names, but the one we most agreed with was "Rebecca". Look at that! Not in my most fertile imagination I was thinking that someday we (me and this illustrious stranger) would have a baby together and name her Rebecca! It's really cool to look back at the past already knowing the "future", especially in these times!
Well, but our whole conversation was not all that smooth. I remember that Dan was somehow cold with me at several times. We talked about CISV bc Ju had already tried to make me get to know the entity, but I never took it seriously. But talking to him, I said I wanted to know more about CISV and he then told me he was going to send me some more information later by email. But then Nathalie mentioned that she also knew CISV and almost immediately Dan told her: "Oh, then you can send her (me) the information!" (frustration music starting in my head...)
Another one: Nathalie began a conversation of zodiac signs (affff) and then everybody ended up saying when it was each one's birthdays. So I found out Dan's birthday is on Feb, 2nd and mine is on Feb, 10th. I thought that was kind of cool and a happy coincidence that our birthdays were so close to each others, and conveyed it to him. Then him: "My ex girlfriend's birthday and mine are on the same day!" (frustation music starting again and even louder now!). Really?? hahaha. When it seemed that I was getting closer to him, he kept shutting me out!

When it seemed that I was getting closer to him, he kept shutting me out!
But in overall I think we could finish the trip sympathizing with each other and there were two pleasant hours (for me, at least). Because of logistics, I ended up being the last one to be "delivered". Anyway, we arrived at my house, I grabbed my things and we said goodbye, simple like that. Bah, what were you expecting? That he asked for my phone or anything like that or that we would romantically kiss like it happens on movies? Logically not! This is real life! And I was already resigned and accepting the fact that all my efforts to conquer him was in vain and that we would never see each other anymore in our lives, even though we were studying in the same university.
Well, so I got inside, but still kinda happy smiling (say, "in love-silly-happy") and I was afraid that my parents and siblings would realize it had something to do with some guy! Man, family always gets it right! Besides, I'm not good at all at hiding things from anybody! But I was not willing to endure that kinda of questionnaire: "Wow, what are you so smiling about?" and so on. You know what I mean! That family-bullying thing!
But, thankfully nobody said anything cuz I could reasonably disguise my feelings delivering the gifts I had bought and I went to bed quickly since it was already late. The next day I went to college. It was the second week of school (the classes had just resumed after winter break) and since the first day back to school, I was running at the university track n' field during my lunchtime. I was running almost daily. Well, I remembered Ju telling me that Daniel used to play soccer everyday at the university courts during lunchtime too (and that's why he was so tan!) So on that day, a monday, I got one more motivation to run: spotting Dan, tooootally by coincidence.
Well, there I was, running. Then I got tired and stopped. I was preparing myself to leave but I stopped at the soccer courts at a distance trying to see Daniel. Well, I found him (he had just committed a soccer fault on someone) and then I've realized how ridiculous I was being doing that: "Man, are you ridiculous or what! What do you want? That he suddenly looks at you and think you are stalking him? Or maybe you want to give him a "hi" from afar in front of all of his friends? Or maybe you want to go there everyday to see him from afar and only for a few secs and then go away?" Ridiculous, huh? Then, it "hit" me how foolish and nonsense was all of that and I abandoned the idea of the "candidate Daniel" and I left to have lunch. After that day, I even stopped running at the sports center.
And that's the end of the third part!

So on that day, a monday, I got one more motivation to run: spotting Dan, tooootally by coincidence.
Logico q nao, aqui eh a vida real!
No dia seguinte, fui pra facul.
Bem, entao eu fui correr. Dai cansei e parei. Ridicula neh! Entao, caiu a ficha, abandonei a ideia do "candidato Daniel" e fui almocar.

"The Story of Us - part 2"
So I had decided that I would go to Ju Ueno's house on the first weekend of August 2006. As I've said, she lived in sjc and several other people studying at Unicamp (State University of Campinas) lived in sjc and returned to their parents' house on the weekends. The arrangements of rides is the most used for them because it's the most convenient and cheaper than buses (in Brazil there are a lot of comfortable buses that travel between cities, states, etc). Traveling alone by car ends up being very expensive because of the high price of gasoline and the price of toll in Brazil (you can never skip tolls in Brazil, and believe it or not, gas price in Brazil is much worse than in the US).
Also, another friend of mine, Claudia - who was also studying civil eng, was from sjc and I planned to return to Campinas in the same way that she would also return. So we had agreed that Claudia would find a ride for us two on Sunday night. Finally, Sunday arrived and Claudia said she couldn't find a ride with anybody (on the email listing for rides) and that "the thing" was getting tough. Another friend of Ju Ueno, Nathalie, from sjc who was studying biology at Unicamp, also was ride-less and she told us that there were no more vacancies in the bus for all that afternoon and night. Note that all of these misfortunes was not very common at all.
Wow, who knows me can tell that I was getting pretty desperate, by then. (I'm super nerd! lol) Imagine myself not getting back on time for college? And my mom was not going to like this AT ALL! lol Then, Ju remembered of her friend (yes, Daniel) who was doing his master in biology at Unicamp, who was supposed to have returned from Greece on the morning of that Sunday or sat night. Parentheses: Dan used to spend the entire months of July in some other country as a camp counselor for children through CISV and on that month of July/06 he had gone to Greece (pretty boring, huh?).
I still remember Ju trying to convince me that it would be all right because even though he had just returned from Greece, Dan would probably drive to Campinas on that same night because he was late on his master and his professor was already getting angry he had traveled the whole month of July.
Well, so I said: "ok, so call him and check if he will really return to Campinas tonight or not." Then Ju called and spoke to his sister, Tati, bc Dan was sleeping (resting from the flight journey and I think also from the camp kids), and her sister also said she thought he really would go back to Campinas on that night. So it was agreed that Dan would call Ju back, to arrange things better, when he wake up. We still needed to be sure that there was enough space in the car for 3 (Claudia, Nathalie and I), to set up a time, and a place to pick us up.
So Ju started telling me a little about him. She said he was also Japanese. (I forgot to mention but Ju is a mix of Japanese and - let's say - Brazilian!) She told me he loves to play soccer, that he was super nice, that he had many cool stories to tell about the camps, etc. Oh, she also said he was kinda pricey and always charged $15 for those who would take a ride with him, while most still charged $10-12 reais (brazilian currency)! LOL. Oh, that he does not drink but she said that sometimes he drives a little over the speed limit. Anyway, I do not remember how nor why but she also mentioned that he was single at that time! But seriously, nothing important, she was only giving me information about the person that would give me a ride home because sometimes it's only natural to concern and wonder if the person who is taking you home is crazy or not!
So I think he called Ju back to confirm that his car was empty and that he could give us three a ride and that he would meet everyone at Ju's house. Then I guess he asked to speak with Ramon (Ju's brother, who also goes to CISV). Okay, so I remember that Ju and I were seated around her dining table eating Lindt chocolates and, suddenly, Dan appears. Like, at her dining room! I didn't even noticed the door bell ringing or somebody opening the door for him but that might be just because my memory is failing me now!
Ju: "Oh, that's Daniel who will give you a ride. O, I forgot to mention before but he's Rodrigo's cousin, you know, the one who lives in the same building of your friend Claudia."
Pause! hehe Seriously, I don't know why but I was not expecting a guy like him. Well, you always kinda hope the guy you are about to meet is somehow handsome, charming, but you also know these things never really happen! I don't know, but he was well tanned, lean face, nice haircut, with gel spike bangs, pretty nose, eye wide open (for a japanese, I mean!) and he looked peculiarly attentive. Anyway, I found him handsome, immediately! And I also found him intriguing to me, don't know why! And yet Ju just said he was a cousin of a person that I know who is also, in fact, best friend of a friend of mine from my college and I kinda thought that was a big coincidence, huh?
Then it started:
Me: "Are you Rodrigo's cousin?" - Super excited about the coincidence.
Him: "Yeah" and he was already leaving the room without even giving me too much attention or anything and he simply acted like if there was no coincidence at all! A person would care if a stranger had just said he/she knew one of his/her close relatives, like a cousin, right?
Well, while he was leaving the room and me astonished, Ju managed to shout him asking how old he was (so I could listen from him that he was 26 years old - I was 20) and I almost fell off the chair! I thought, "Wow, six years older and he really doesn't look like it at all!" So I was getting even more intrigued about him! Handsome AND single, older but with a younger face (I always liked guys with younger faces!) And... HE WAS NOT GIVING ME ANY ATTENTION AT ALL. Seriously, it's not like I think I'm unquestionably pretty, but in general guys are all smiling and very friendly with any girl who is okay looking and single, right?! Even more single guys! (Maybe it was because of Netta from Israel - another camp counselor who Dan'd had a crush on during the camp. This "Netta thing" is actually a funny story.)
Then Dan left the room to call Ramon and I guess while he was waiting for Ramon to come down he returned to the dining room, sat on a chair and asked for a Lindt chocolate to eat. So I took the chance take one more chocolate myself (it was staring at me!!) and it seems I said something somehow funny about it because he ended up laughing. (Yay, a point for me! Made him laugh!)
If you ask Dan about it he will say that it was all part of his plan to get my attention (it's a lie, he had no plan at all!), That in order to make a girl fancy you, u should always be snobbish with her! Well, jokes or not aside, he finally admits he hated being the kind of guy who lifts up the ego of one girl who might think too much of herself and, apparently, that was my case. And besides, I had (have) a snobbish face myself, and he did not like that kind of people so he was really not interested in me and he was not willing to give me any kind of attention!
Okay, so he went out the room again to meet with Ramon and then Ju and I left the house to do something else I don't record right now. I also found out that before giving us a ride, Daniel would still play soccer late that afternoon and Ju was already warning me that she thought he would not even take a shower after playing soccer 'cause he'd probably be late. (Look at that!!! He would probably be late and would not take a bath!) And as a final detail, he had just called Ju or her mobile to tell that he would not pick us up at her house anymore, but that he would meet everybody at the "Colinas" mall. That was it! "Really, was that too hard to pick us up at Ju's house? It was super close to the mall! This guy must be joking, right?" I got mad at him!
And end of the second part!

Nossa, quem me conhece sabe q eu já tava ficando desesperada, né? (Sou super nerd!)
Ok.
Eu: "Nossa, vc é primo do Rodrigo?"
NÃO ME TAVA ME DANDO BOLA NENHUMA.
Nossa, quem me conhece sabe q eu já tava ficando desesperada, né? (Sou super nerd!)

"The Story of Us"
Have you seen this movie with Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer? I recommend it! I think it's a very good movie and I always get emotional and cry when I watch it again - something not so difficult since I'm a cry-baby!
But it's not about this movie that I want to write about. I want to tell you a little about the story of Dan and I. For my closest girlfriends I must have told them this story a thousand times with all the details, others know just the general of it, some don't know anything about it but must have some curiosity and the rest must not even have it. But I love to remember "The Story of Us" and will share it here! But I think I'll have to divide it into parts so it won't be too tiring for anyone!!
I'll start telling a little about me before Dan gets into the scene. (Shii, this will go on forever! lol) But before anything, I'll have to say that I never was the kind of girl that kisses some guy just for kissing (like it's pretty common in Brazil. Actually, people only start dating after kissing). I always said clearly to anyone who was willing to kiss me, that I was not like everyone else. "So you only go for a serious relationship?" - was the usual question. Well, in a way, yes! I tried to explain that if he wanted to kiss me, it would be an exclusive relationship and that we would try to get to know each other. If it didn't work out, that's fine, we "break up" and end of story! I didn't care how much the relationship would last. That was not my point! And I'll tell ya that this "tactic" (just joking!) never failed me and all of them accepted my "terms of conditions".
So before Dan I've had four ultra fast little relationships (thus, the only four guys I've kissed in my life). The longest one lasted for a month - and only in theory! Therefore, none of them was very important to me. But after the last one I've decided I wouldn't date guys if I wasn't sure I liked them the minimum for doing so. It seems like an obvious statement but I had to learn that practically on my life. So, from the last one until Dan, ten months have passed (the longest period of time since my first relationship) and at that moment I was kinda not interested in parties and related.
I remember that in July, 2006, I went to my last party at some night club (Swingers) and I left the place almost deaf. Parentheses: Man! How I hate these parties!! People must be drunk to feel like they are having any fun, you can't talk to anyone because of the sound volume and the type of music, and besides being a terrible dancer, I hate the embarrassment of myself and others dancing in a circle of people. But back to my point. I was partially deaf when I left the place (literally! I thought I would have to sue the night club if I didn't get better!) So I came home complaining with all my soul and swearing I would never go back to a night club again. Then, my father in a very serious way: "Yeah, yeah. You say this now but I bet you'll go back to a night club again." Then me: "Wanna bet?" (hahaha, you can see the self pride arising there) Then my father: "I do want to bet on it." Me: "Ok, cool with me, so let's bet. But I'll charge you my reward later, I'm serious!" hahaha. Yeah, I don't record having another conversation like this with my father ever. BTW, dad, where is my reward??? I haven't received anything yet! hahaha
Well, back to what I was saying. So I wasn't going to any night club and I wasn't interested in parties in general. I even missed a party I had already bought the ticket. It was the first time I've lost money like this. I have given up many parties before, but never a party that I had already bought the ticket.
Sure, I was not interested in parties but I was always alert to any possible candidate. Might this be that person you always see at the sports center at your university, or that one that every Monday studies in the same place at the university library, or that friend's friend. BTW, what single and available girl isn't like that? So, I was always flirting, but nothing more serious than that.
Sooo, finally, in August 2006, just a week after college restarted from winter break (we're in Brazil, remember?), my friend Ju Ueno was going to Sweden to stay there for several months and she had invited me to come over to her house in São José dos Campos (another city). And, really, who knows me can assure that I rarely slept over at someone else's house. In all my life, I've done that at Ju's, Érica's and Helena's house just a few times. Well, but I had decided I would go there at Ju's house (for the first time).
And that's the end of the first part!

Eu não me importava o quanto durasse.
ALIÁS, pai, cadê a minha recompensa??? Não recebi até agora, hahaha.
Bem, voltandooo.

Rebecca Maria
This post is about our little baby Rebecca Maria. She just turned 7 months old on the 30th of March and besides talking a little about her in general I want to share the newest about her!
Like every mother say about their own children, I also say that our little daughter is GORGEOUS! Yes, we think she is beautiful to die for and she gives us sooo much joy! She is super smiling (with us, at least), she is easy to make laugh pretty hard and she is so affectionate! No wonder she is like this since her parents keep kissing her all the time! She loves to be kissed by her parents and while I'm breastfeeding her she keeps moving her hand fondly at my arms or stirring my necklace, which is also fun!
Now, like not everything are wonders, she has her little problems! She cries too much! But even for this, she has some excuses, poor of her! It has been 4 months since we found out for sure that our little one has dairy allergy. It's obvious that we always knew she has some kind of allergy and we also suspected it could be dairy, one top allergenic, but between having sure and just suspecting, it's hard to take an action. For those who don't get this so easily, the fact that Rebecca has some kind of food allergy interferes directly with my diet because she's still nursing. So, who can't eat ANY dairy it's me!
Now some of you might be questioning me: how could you make sure she has dairy allergy? And the answer is pretty punctual: she started pooping with some blood after one day we had a cheese and wine. Yes, but don't be so scared because, thank God, on her case it wasn't much blood! In fact, when we took a dirty diaper from the day before to our doctor so she could check it, she couldn't even see the blood because it was so little and it had already changed its color. But back to what I was saying. It seems that the only known allergenic that causes blood on stool is dairy. and talking to some other doctor, he explained me that the cause is specifically the casein of the cow milk, not the lactose, so I can't go buying lactose-free stuff because it wouldn't solve the problem.
The thing is that after 2 weeks I've stopped eating any dairy (milk, butter, buttery spreads, cheese, some breads and all the good desserts in the world) her stool still had some blood and the colics persisted so I convinced myself that her problem was another one. And I started eating dairy again. Then a woman I barely knew, steeped at me after listen to Rebecca's obvious "colic crying" that she must have dairy allergy (and possibly some other food allergies, as well) and that I should stick with my diet for at least a month until I see some results. Well, after feeling like crap, the worst mother in the world, receiving advice/orders on how to treat my daughter from a stranger, I came at her another day to thank her.
Indeed, I had to wait 40 days more or less to see improvements on her colic pains and for the blood to vanished from her stool. And you should see what a happier girl she is after this!!!
"Ah, so you never more ate any dairy?" I did it and regret it deeply every time. It's amazing how we can convince ourselves of what we want to believe. Every time was very easy to fool myself thinking "oh, this little she wouldn't even notice it". But Rebecca's dairy radar it's unbelievably accurate and there comes the colic crying again.
Well, but thank to God, here in the US it's very easy to live with food allergy because everything is so affordable. I buy on HEB a delicious almond milk with which I can make a lot of sweet and salty recipes for $2.5 (2L) (and sometimes I can get a coupon for it), I buy a fairly big package of dairy, nut and soy free chocolate morsels for $4 (they are quite good) - soy is another top allergenic I avoid to eat - I also buy mix for brownie (dairy free) for $1.5 (they are DELICIOUS) and finally, on Whole Foods in Austin, I buy the better and tastiest buttery spread I ever ate, which is dairy and SOY free, the only one in the market from Earth Balance (not to be confused with Smart Balance) for $3.5 and it's a big pot. Cheese is the only thing I couldn't find a replacement for my taste. So I know I can't complain that much.
But back to little Rebecca! Now about her newest development skills! For those of you who don't know, we are living at another apt since March, 30th. It's a bigger one, with 2 bedrooms, very cool. And now Rebecca has her own bedroom only for her and her stuff!
We were willing to start let Rebecca cry out at night without feeding her as soon as we have moved to the new apt like the docs suggest since babies 6 months older can fast for up to 12h while they are sleeping if you guarantee that they ate enough during the day. But it was funny and much easier than we thought it would be how we ended up doing it!
On the first night at the new apt I let the doors open so I could listen to her if she cries because she was still recovering from a 7h jet lag so on this night she cried loud and I nursed her. On the next night, I was sooo tired and I closed the doors not intentionally so I didn't listen her all night and she ended up sleeping all night! On the next day, I intentionally closed all doors again, didn't hear her and again she slept all night!
Well, I thought she would continue like that forever, but on Saturday we took her to get her ears pierced (ANOTHER NEWS) and then she cried loud on this night and I nursed her. On Sunday she also cried and I nursed her. On Monday, despite having taken 3 shoots and an oral shoot for rota virus (that always causes her some colics) she slept all night and also on Tuesday and Wednesday! So I think we are going great and she might continue to sleep all night now forward!
Regarding solid foods. Yes, since she is 6 months old we started giving her solids (purees, actually). I make a nutritious baby food for her and she also eats rice cereal. But about this I intend to write another post. A short one, hopefully.
Another news it that she now moves around on the floor! When Rebecca was younger she hated tummy time. But now she goes on her tummy with out making a scandal and seems to quite enjoy it. She is almost crawling but she already knows how to change her direction on 360 degrees and to give some steps backwards, hahaha!! She also seats on her own for a month now, but sometimes she stills falls.
And now that we live in a nicer place, we go out with her for a stroll everyday. At my older apt complex, there was a creepy neighbor and another one that always stopped me to talk endlessly like he does with every neighbor. So I always avoided to go out. It was too bad, but now it's over!
And these are the news about our little one! Everyone who sees her melt at her and we get tired to listen how she is pretty, precious, alert, etc! You should see at the groceries stores! Three people already asked me if there were more Rebeccas for sale! And there are the people that are visibly in a hurry but they still stop to say some compliments about her. Well, with all of this I am a little fearful that someone might want to stole my beauty from me so I am an assumed neurotic with safety! I got this from my mom, but at least I won't regret it later.
On this weekend we went to Fredericksburg and on the way we took some nice pics of Rebecca in the middle of a field of bluebonnets. I'm posting these pics here. You can see her earrings! It's too bad that Rebecca seems to be in pain on the pics! lol We wanted to visit the wild flowers and seeds farm there but there wasn't any flower since it hasn't rained too much there. But we enjoyed visiting there for the first time and also the good restaurants.
And that's it!

Rebecca Maria
Comi e toda vez me arrependi profundamente.
Conclusao: nao ouvi a Rebecca e ela acabou dormindo a noite toda!!! No dia seguinte: a mesma coisa!!
No supermercado entao!!

"The First Post"
Still about the creation of the blog: I have the goal to write each post both in english and in portuguse. The reasons for this are several. The first one and most obvious it's because I have friends in Brazil as well as in the USA and I want to make this blog accessible to all of them. The second reason it's that doing this way I'd be improving my english as well as my portuguese(!). I'll explain this better. Let's start with improving my portuguese. Yes, the portuguese is my mother tongue and living in the USA for more than two years now, I'm feeling like my portuguese it's not the same as it used to be. Frequently, at home, Dan – my husband – and I don't use only the portuguese to speak between us. While most of the words are in portuguese, indeed, the rest – not that few – are in english. IE, a big mix that it's not good, surely. Regarding my written portuguese, it's been a long time since I've noticed that it deteriorated a lot since I've finished High School and started doing college (civil engineering). But still in college I wrote a little and elaborated my thought in words another little. Now that I don't study anymore you can imagine my current ability to write an essay, for example. (ops!)
Now regarding my english. It's obvios that simply by writing in english it would result in a improvement in this language. But my goal it's a little bit more specific than that. Writing in good portuguese, I can write in good english too – I hope – and doing this, improve my vocabulary. Because I know that I can make myself understood here, but I end up using the same vocabulary since it has been enough for me. The thing is, that many times while I'm speaking to someone, they end up completing my sentences for me. This is very convenient and I kinda got used to it, but, let's agree with it, this is not the ideal! In sum, my main goal regarding my english is to grow in vocabulary.
About the subjects I intend to write about, I think all of them are liable to be found here in this blog. I think I'd like to write about everything that is worth it. Some of these subjects I already know that they'll be present here like things about my baby Rebecca, food (love it!), married life, the life of someone living in a foreign country, spirituality or simply good ideas that I consider being worth the share. However, don't be surprised if one of the post is about a completely different subject than the ones I just mentioned. I don't want to refrain myself to write anything I want simply because it didn't fit in the original mold of the blog. So there is no original form for it.
There is still one more thing I'd like to say about this blog. In true, it's about a fear I have. I have the certain impression that the people that maintain a blog end up living for it. This is something I always suspected and that only got stronger after I saw the movie “Julie and Julia”. (movie that I recommend specially for those who love food!) But back to my point. Yes. I have the fear to start living for the blog. And I say this literately! I can imagine myself in the situations I live already thinking about the post it could come out of this. Or think too much about the people that will read this blog more than what I really want to write (because this would be vanity, I believe). However, in the end, I still don't have a tactic to don't let this happen to me but the awareness of this possible evil it's already a good thing, I think.
So this was my first post. I think it's a little too long. But making short texts was never one of my qualities/abilities. So I think I'll have to deal with my famous gigantic texts!
And that's it! (My famous farewell phrase!)
The End.
“O primeiro post”
Fim!
